Day 1 at My FIRST TECH Job

If you’re in tune with Engineering and social media, you may have seen a post or two with people asking and wondering, “How old were you when you landed your first tech job?” This is a common question I see on my feed and I was never able to chime in. I wasn’t in the tech space until THIS YEAR, having landed my first tech job after completing Flatiron School’s engineering course.

My first day at my first tech job was very smooth, yes that’s the one word I have to describe the day. As I was reflecting on my first day as a Software Engineer, thoughts of confidence and pride came to me. I had been training for this opportunity for a year now and I was ready! I had forgotten about the feeling of meeting new co-workers and getting familiar with onboarding. The great thing about this company is that their team is extremely welcoming and warm. You could tell the team was prepared and genuine. We had a few normal hickups, the kind you have when your codebase can’t be cloned due to versioning and Git; but we were able to persist with confidence and a little hope.

The arrival was very easy and light, the intern team and I were fed lunch and briefly introduced to the product. We got set up at our desks and got familiar with our work environment. This was a day I had been looking forward to for months and it was finally here! I feel very proud of myself, I was amazed at the fact that I was able to complete the program and put my skills to use for this company SO FAST! After today, the nerves are gone and the excitement has been balanced and I’m now more confident in my future as a developer. I really feel like Flatiron prepared me well and I can’t wait to take on tasks and complete my first commits.

Comment & share if you can relate!

Happy Coding!
